The Passions
Passion is a tricky thing to pin down. Some would characterize the word as romantic—a strong feeling of love. Others would connect the term passion with fanaticism, where any one overly devoted to a cause feels fervently for the ideals to which they are dedicated. But passion to me is something you feel strongly about, something that drives you, something that connects you to who you really are. In many ways my work is my passion, because I enjoy nothing more than helping other people attain financial goals that will help them follow their passions. However, that is certainly not my limit. Inside my office, I am Hans Overturf, the professional. Outside, I am Hans Overturf, man of many passions. It is only out in the wide-open world that I truly feel that I can live my life to the fullest, that I can live in the moment and be who I truly am. It is my firm belief that life is no spectator sport, and you are given your body to take care and take advantage of as best you can. My particular passions are connected to this belief system—to support this belief system and are indeed examples of this belief system. I love nothing better than to converge the health of my body with the natural world around me, be it from the ground or from the air.
Hans Overturf - Running California Mountain Trails: I have always loved to run. I ran sprints in college at Humboldt State and actually placed very well in my races. Since graduating I have spent much of my time exploring the mountains of California and running various trails in this beautiful state. The website linked above describes my thoughts on running, including a technique to help increase running efficiency, as well as tips on how to run specifically designed for those looking to run in the mountains.
Flying Helicopters: The Joys and Challenges by Hans Overturf: One of my favorite ways to relax and enjoy nature's beauty is from the front seat of a helicopter. Relaxation is key to being able to keep a calm spirit at all times. I have been flying helicopters for years, and I honestly think there is no better way to travel, especially if you want to enjoy the scenery as you fly. In this website I talk about some of the basics of helicopter flight, including what you might expect from a training school, where to buy a helicopter, and whether or not learning to fly is right for you.
The World of Yoga ⋅ Hans Overturf: Fitness of the body is important to me, as I have mentioned before. Keeping your body aligned with your mind is essential, and a perfect way to do that is through Yoga. I therefore wrote a website dedicated to Yoga, and in it I explain the different types of Yoga, and give examples of basic postures one might find when they enter a Yoga studio. The wonderful thing about Yoga is that you never learn everything about it; you will always be a student no matter how much knowledge you absorb.
A Tour of Switzerland by Hans Overturf: As a Swiss-American, I love my homeland intensely. I try to visit Switzerland each year, and have recorded some of my observations about traveling to that marvelous country in this website. Should you ever get the opportunity, I strongly suggest you take the time to travel to Switzerland. Its majestic beauty will change your outlook on the world forever.
